Atkins Attacks and My Big Fat Ass (or maybe it’s time to drop a few pounds) are my first two posts in regards to losing weight in the next year or so using a low carb diet. I started out with The Atkins Diet on the two week phase one plan and had great luck with it. I decided to stay on phase one, keeping my carb intake to 25 or less grams. As Thanksgiving hit, I went off the wagon and started enjoying the warm casseroles, the sweets and the awesome turkey dinner. Here are something that I noticed about myself that changed while on the Atkins.

1) (this is a little gross) My bowel movements became very regular and very hard. (Told you it was gross). Before I’d go all day, every day and it was usually very um….. well… not comfortable. While on Atkins I went once or twice a day and it was quick and easy.

2) I have issues with my hands falling asleep at night. It’s very uncomfortable and I have to get up and usually walk around to get the sensation back in my hands. While on Atkins, I never woke up with circulation problems in my hands.

3) I have been having problems with my back hurting when I wake up in the morning for a very long time. I’m not sure if Atkins had anything to do with it but the second I started eating more carbs my back problems came back.

4) No hunger during the evening. We usually eat dinner around 7pm or so and usually by 10pm I’m ready for another meal. While on Atkins, I rarely get hungry after dinner and that’s a big help for me since I’ve always been a late night snacker.

This isn’t my glowing recommendation for Atkins, I’m simply stating the pros that I’ve had with the diet. Perhaps it just works for me and my body – who knows? I did only lose about eight pounds during my first month on it (before I went off for two weeks around Thanksgiving) but I can tell you that I’m going to stick on it. For me it’s easy and I get to eat a lot of the things that I normally can’t on a low calorie, low fat diet. We’ll see how it goes and I’ll keep ya updated!
