Porter and I were bored the other day, as we often are because we are like 90 miles a minute people, and decided to experiment with some hard boiled eggs I had just made. Basically we filled up three plastic cups with 1 cup of water and added one hard boiled egg to each cup. Then Porter decided that we would add 4 drops of food coloring to the 1st cup, 3 drops to the 2nd cup and 2 drops to the final cup. Our hypothesis was that the more food coloring we added, the darker the color would be. We allowed the experiment to sit for 15 minutes. In the end, it turned out that it didn’t matter, they were all about the same color but it was fun learning together. Here are some pictures of our “Eggsperiment:”

Conclusion!

About a week ago I was getting ready to take a bath and had set my iTouch and towel on the toilet seat while I brushed my teeth. I heard Gracie stirring in her bed and although she is in a diaper at night, I thought that it would be a good idea to wake her up fully and have her use the potty. She immediately popped up from her bed and went running to the bathroom where I was getting ready to take a bath. She picked up the towel to move it to open the lid to the toilet and my iTouch (almost two years old) went sliding off the towel and KERSPLOOSH, my eyes watch as the iTouch, in slow motion, slowly sinks to the bottom of the tub. A second later I snap out of it and frantically grab my iTouch and watch in horror as my wallpaper pic (my kids being tickled) slowly becomes saturated as water fills the entire screen. Then everything goes dark…

I immediately go online from my laptop to the Facebook website hoping that out of the 28o friends I have (most of them big ‘ol geeks I met through Eric) will be able to help. Sure enough, within minutes three people comment on my status update that I should put it in a bag of rice for about five days then fire the ‘ol girl up an see what happens. After doing my own research (thinking these people were crazy) it turns out that it does work. Five days later, the screen was almost completely clear of water and sure enough. It works. It accesses the internet, plays music and videos, the games all work, it syncs up and absolutely nothing was lost. Yes, I know – sounds crazy – right? Believe me, it works!

I am not kidding – the girl goes nuts for them! We’ve been collecting them for about a year now. It all started last October, when she was 2 and found a witch one in the Halloween section of Target. She would not be separated from it. I eventually went and bought several witches because when she would eventually lose it, there would be tears upon tears when it couldn’t be resurrected for bed time. Since then she’s acquired quite a few more. I did some serious goodwill collecting/cleaning tonight and these were all I could find. I’d imagine I’m probably missing a good handful but this is a pretty good collection so far…

Oh and Michele, she picked out the Gator football under no prompting whatsoever. See, I FINALLY sent you a pic of it!

Again, this is only super exciting if you’re a parent but we loved it. Gracie has always been artistic. She dances, sings, draws, colors and loves to sit outside with her chalk and make circles. We also have several of these art boards where they can write, erase and re-draw. She has one that lights up that she keeps in her bad ALL THE TIME and draws on and then she has this one that she uses during the day. The other day she drew something that we actually recognized – we were SO EXCITED! Here it is:

Gracie finally got to play her first soccer game of this season… and by game I mean about 25 kids under the age of four running around and kicking the ball at everything and everyone. She got pretty tired towards the end, we had to arrive early for Porter’s individual and team shots so she was pretty sick of just kicking the ball by the time her team actually came together. She warmed up to it and had a good time. They apparently had dumped off a ton of dirt recently to fill in the holes caused by the massive rains and heavy flooding we’ve been having down here and it was quite the deterrent for the kids. They just couldn’t stay out of it. She also enjoyed running back and forth across two fields while I chased after her to get her “back in the game.” It was quite the workout for me and since I wore jeans and sandals, I was soaked and miserable by the end. Note to self: wear workout clothes and tennis shoes! Both kids have Saturday morning games each week so my soccer mom butt will be mini-van-ing it to and from the soccer field all morning long, but that’s okay! Regardless, it’s just for fun and to get her into something new. So far she’s taking Music, Gymnastics, Art AND Soccer this season and loving it all. Here are some pics of my baby girl’s first big game!

the past tense of “Pigs Fly”

and there we go. That’s all I’ve got. Apparently, although a doctor cannot confirm or deny this, my kids both have the H1N1 flu, more commonly called The Swine Flu.  The reason they cannot tell me if they have it is because the testing only has a 60% success rate of positive diagnosis after the first few days. Thinking my kids were just ill, since they didn’t seem THAT bad, I used homeopathic methods, which usually work, for several days. Once the fever wouldn’t pass, I took them to the doc. Starts with a lethargic child who then begins complaining of a headache and stomach ache and then a low grade fever. Now we have some sinus congestion, wet cough and Porter has a severe ear infection in both ears. The fact that I do Nasal irrigation on both my kids, (3 and 5) is the only reason they do not have a full blown sinus infection. Long story short, we’re pulling through but if you’ve been following this blog, you know it’s really been a doozy of a summer.

So Friday I drive up to pick up Porter and here he comes just beaming as he runs down the ramp with his Bakugan back pack askew on his back, his Transformer flip fops just burning rubber as fast as his little legs can carry him and his arms is a three foot gigantic striped tiger! He has got the biggest smile on his face and his eyes are just beaming. I know this can only mean one thing…. my little guy was student of the week and we are now in charge, for the next two days, of taking care of “Sweet Apples” the class “pet.” As Porter walks down the line of over SUV’s and Honda Odysseys, he breifly stops at each car and yells “I’M STUDENT OF THE WEEK, SEE MY TIGER? I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF HIM, I’M SO AWESOME!” It was adorable and enough to make me well up with tears. My big boy – student of the week today, valedictorian tomorrow…

Gracie is in her third season of Gymnastics and still loving it. She is doing a lot better on the balance beam and is even jumping into the foam pit! Her favorite part is the obstacle course and has even gotten up the courage to go under the parachute and allow Mrs. Jenny to flip her on the uneven bars. She’s so tall and beautiful in her leotard. My sweet princess.

Porter joined soccer this year and of course I was there to take a bazillion pictures of his first game! He has really had a lot of fun playing but running around for about an hour really wears him out. The other issue is that the rain has been so constant here in Georgia, we’ve actually had major flooding in some cities and even deaths! So we haven’t had but this ONE game and there wasn’t even a practice beforehand! Anyways, his team is the “Chelsea*.” Porter was LESS then happy especially since the other teams have names like STORM and CYCLONE! Even Gracie’s team (which has yet to even play due to the rain) is the Tigers. He’s considering switching teams… HA HA! Enjoy!

*Eric just informed me that there is a famous team called Chelsea that is probably what he named the team after. Whatever – it’s still not a name a bunch of five year olds are going to be thrilled about, especially considering the other team’s names. Anyways, on to the pics.

Needless to say there was a whole lot of “THAT’S NOT YOUR GOAL!” and “OTHER SIDE – OTHER SIDE!!” and “SAME TEAM, YOU GUYS ARE ON THE SAME TEAM!” It was great. He was exhausted and it was awesome seeing my little guy play his first soccer game.
